To enhance security, help us fight bandits – Police minister begs Nigerians

Muhammad Dingyadi who is the Minister of Police Affairs, has appealed to leaders and members of communities across Nigeria to cooperate with the government and security agencies to fight bandits and other criminals.

Dingyadi made the appeal while speaking with crime correspondents at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

He said checks confirmed that most banditry activities are perpetrated by people living in contiguous communities, using insiders that aid them with information.

Noting that police infrastructure is receiving attention, Dingyadi cited the recent deployment of drones for surveillance as well as additional Explosive Ordinance Devices (EODs) to detect bombs.

“We need intelligence to guide our operations and the support of the general public. We are improving on our intelligence, equipment and strengthening officers in the course of their operations”, he said.

Dingyadi reiterated the federal government’s determination to restore peace in order to create a conducive environment for economic growth.

“The President Muhammadu Buhari led administration remains committed to ensuring that justice is done for both victims of crime and the perpetrators,” he said.

The minister stressed that synergy between the police and citizens in the fight against all forms of violent crimes will enhance security.

On police personnel salary, he said the government was fast-tracking increment while the Force management is collaborating with the Ministry of Finance on payment.
